El Nido, Palawan

Did you ever dream of going to a place far away from the city where you can unwind and bask in the beauty of nature? Then Palawan should be on the top of your list. The island is famous for its pristine beaches, rainforests and corals.

It's around a one hour flight and five hour drive from Metro Manila. There are a lot of affordable tour vouchers at Metrodeal that you can avail.

Not too long ago I spent a couple of days at Palawan with my boyfriend. The whole trip was a birthday present from him. Yay! We specifically chose El Nido for a more rural vibe.

We stayed at Island Hop Nido Hostel. A cozy, neat place with an amazing rooftop overlooking the beach. After setting down our stuff, we had a quick coffee break at the Cavern Pod Hotel and Specialty Cafe. We figured we needed a blast of caffeine before we head on to see the rest of the places and let me tell you, they served me one of the best iced coffees I ever tasted with a cute heart-shaped complimentary biscuit on the side!

The first day was mostly our free time so we spent it walking around, looking for places where we can eat or party. At night, the places and the people are so alive. Restaurants lined up by the beach, lights dancing on the ripples of water. Good food, reggae music, nice locals and tourists.

The second day is when the real adventure began. The day we saw what an actual gem Palawan is.
The limestone cliffs rising from the deep turquoise water make for an amazing view. We explored different islands and swam in different lagoons. We were guided by a local with a pretty great sense of humor.

Candid photo time!

That's just touching the surface. As soon as I got back home, I stumbled upon a video regarding Palawan's environmental crusaders - people who risk their lives to protect the forest from illegal logging.

To think that beyond a paradise is a battlefield. We can only support their idealism and perhaps incorporate it in our daily lives so that the future generations can still lay their eyes on the beauty of nature. I hope to one day come back to this place and witness as much beauty as I did before.
